If you use a good lamp then it'll drop the most in the first 100hrs then slowly drop over the rest of the life of the lamp. I have some 100watt full coat (not reflector) lamps that haven't dropped in output in 400hrs and we are talking 1000+ hrs total so far. If they don't drop in output then what do I care if they have 4000000000hrs or 4?

But are they still tanning people? Any what type of bulbs are these you speak of?

if uv output is still steady and w/in their acceptable range they will still be tanning people. That's the nice thing since it's a win win for you. If they lamps die off early, you are not putting your customers in beds that will not tan them. If they lamps are not dead at 800hrs (or whatever is 80% of their life) you can leave them in until they are dead thus saving you from relamping early.

I think you loose 20% of the output by 60% of the "rated" life. Meaning if a 160w R lamp is rated at 800 you realistically get 480 good hours out of it. If a 100w R lamp is rated at 1200 you get about 720 good hours. Even those hours may be high depending on the application.

No they are actually removing the tan. OF COURSE THEY ARE. Rated hours means nothing other than an IDEA of how long you will get out of them.

Goldarium by Cosmedico. They just won't die. I got people telling me "HOW GREAT THEY TAN COMPARED TO SO AND SO'S PLACE" and I just laugh. OH YEAH, YOU CAN'T LET THE LAMPS GO!

That's why I don't dabble in knock offs. They don't get a million miles.

Doesn't really work that way. Depends on the application. If the lamps are on top of you (more more than an inch from the tanner) the lamps will last a WHOLE LOT LONGER than if they are in a mid-high canopy. Also remember what's "no longer usable" in one bed can be "the best ever" in another.

Also, the goldariums haven't dropped output in over 400hrs and are getting 110%+ of their rated life with no signs of dropping anytime soon. I do have the replacements ready to go but don't change what isn't broken.

I agree there is no set rule. In my experience though the rated life is a joke most of the time. Every application varies but in the beds being run at 235V + volts most people are only seeing about 60% of the so called rated life.

See and that is a very good thing to know. If I am buying more expensive lamps and are rated for 1000hrs but only getting 500 out of them, I would rethink those lamps on the next relamp.

I am just skeptical because he sells them. Not that he's not right, but I dunno. I just meter them.
