Navigatin is correct.....too many factors involved on how long a lamp will last.

If you are busy and there is a lot of start/stop on the lamps and your a/c isn't working overtime to cool the salon and the room...the bed sucks air in while operating, if you starve it, lamp life and bed output will go down. So too many factors to even care what the lamp life is stated by the manufacturer.

I do top drop every 100-150hours or so(average), with 3-4 rotations. I get maybe 450 hours out of my VHR bed before i change them out. As for what they are rated for, don't know, don't care....cuz they are not even close. Don't know under what conditions they test these lamps out at and expect to get 1,000 hours out of them.....truth is, it's not in real conditions.

Probably in a 20,000 sqft warehouse with 45ft ceilings, only 1 bed running.

Dean I thought you were top droping at 200 to 250 hours? You're the one that gave me the idea (from another thread) to try it out in my next lamp cycle.

Also, when you say "3 - 4 rotations" what do you mean? Are you pulling the bottom lamps and moving them to the top of another unit?

Lets say a bed has 20 lamps on top and 18 on the bottom. Here are two different ways I have seen it done:

1-Every 250 hours put new lamps in the top and take 18 of the old top lamps and put them in the bottom.

2-Every 200 hours put new lamps in half the top and rotate the oldest 9 of into the bottom.

Interesting, so you always have new lamps up top and never anything w/ less than 250 hrs on bottom....changing the lamps more often but buying less new lamps each time. It seems like a bit of a pain to track which lamps are new/used since you are not removing everything from top.

Yea that is the drawback. You need to stay on top of your program. Makes sense when done right.

Depends on the bed Navi....

My VHR's have 52 lamps. So i'll change out approx 12-14 lamps top middle. Whatever was there i push them outwards to the top sides.

I take the top sides and move them to the side bottom sides and i take the bottom sides and move them to the bottom middle.

I take the bottom middle and toss them out.

If i change every 150 or even 200hours. 52 lamps at intervals of 12 lamps each time is 4 lamp changes. 4 x 200hours is 800hours on the bottom middle lamps when i toss them.

Same goes for my standup.

60lamps. I change 15 lamps at a time, front panel where the customer is facing has 0-150 hours, front sides have 150-300hours, back sides have 300-450 hours and back/door panel has 450-600hours. Once they reach 600hours i toss them.

You could also, (during JASON) take those 600hour lamps 160W lamps and put them in your base beds. I know they are 100W lamps...so they are under powered....no biggy....run them for another 400hours during JASON and save some money.

I don't do that, but it's an option most don't realize is available to them during hard times.
