Selling is alot of storytelling. Tell stories about who's using what and how they like it. I tell stories about what I use, how I like it, what it does for me, what my man uses, why he likes it.. You get the picture. Also, I tend to start alot of conversations with, "just so you know." People are looking at the lotion shelves, then, "just so you know," then mention sale or whatever you want them to know. When you get a good rapport going with someone, you can always go with, " did I tell you?" or "look what we just got in." I always try to be sincere cause I know people can spot a phony from way off.

Great thread and good ideas!
It is that ability to "bond" with someone - point out a color they are wearing that looks great on them, a new haircut, a cute purse, their car,... From this - the "storytelling" is a great way to describe it! More of a "friend to friend" conversation, rather than a "sales pitch". As others have pointed out -- the "appearance" is important. So if you look like you just dragged yourself out of bed, if the counter is a shambles, if you seem so deep in thought on the computer or your magazine that the customer feels they are "interrupting" -- none of that is good! Spotlight "deals" -- don't have to be sales, just "deals". Can be the lotion of the week, the Gift With Purchase product (I LOVE buying these when they are available!), the "Staff Favorite" the "Customer Favorite" the "Hot Seller", the "EFT Bonus Lotion". More than anything - BELIEVE in what you are selling! If you think this bed is great - TELL your customers that they HAVE to try it! If you love what Thermojet has done for you - BRAG to everyone that comes in! If you just put together a great special (e.g. buy 20, get 5 free) - let everyone know how great it is! p.s. I doubted that was Dana's work - until I saw the .... and the misspellings. I think it may be original! ![]() |

Ya, I spose i didnt word my post correctly but you definately need to carry on conversation to close the sale, obviously you can't just walk away like my post made it sound. L O L I find it easy to sell moisturizers after a spray tan. Those sales come very easy for me and I'm cant explain why ... but when it comes to selling tanning lotions, I pretty much let them smell them and read the labels and let them ask questions but my lotion sales pretty much SUCK right now so I shouldn't be giving advice here..... L O L !

yeah, a sincere compliment is always a good idea. It may be the only nice thing they hear about themselves that day. Also, the easiest person to sell is the person that just bought something. Did that make sense? What I mean is, if you've sold them a tanning package, just keep on going till they tell you to stop. Sell them a lotion? Go right on to the tan extender. Keep adding on till they say to stop.

This is cheesy...but I try to talk to my customers how I would like to be talked to.
I don't sell - I guide them to a purchase decision. |

My sister-in-law says my best quality is my power of persuasion, I didn't even know that was one of my qualities so I must be sincere.
