Your Customer: "First I would like to know why you all think sunscreen is so bad, yet you offer me tanning lotion that has chemicals that can get into my bloodstream as much anything...."



I personally DO use sunscreen, but I also tan. I have no problems with tanning salons (okay, I love them), of course, and I am a HUGE advocate of responsible tanning.

I also read a statistic that 60 percent of the population still does not use a sunscreen and still actively seeks a tan. Is that good news or what?

If you were a customer in my salon and asked that question, we'd have to stop right there and I'd ask you "What makes you think that I think sunscreen is so bad?"

I recommend to all my customers that even with a base tan, they should be using a sunscreen if they are going to be outside in the sun for an extended period of time.

It's about moderation. WE tanning salon owners are the only ones apparently that want to promote moderation and not abstinence.

My response would be: As with anything, moderation is key. You can purchase sunscreens without the harmful ingredients. I am choosy in my Lotions I sell at my salon and if you are STILL concerned about the ingredients I offer Hypoallergenic lotions with minimal ingredients.

It's because OUR tanning lotion is vitamin enriched and SPF is enriched with carcinogens that cause as much skin cancer as OVER tanning does.

Also, SPF stunts your immune system from reacting to the UV. You are still getting UV exposure BUT UVB is being blocked and that's bad news. So not only are you NOT producing vitamin D from the UVB BUT you are OVER EXPOSING yourself to UVA thanks to your body's stunted tanning.

SPF only exists cause of a very poor study.

SPF BLOCKS UVB
THEREFORE
SPF BLOCKS CANCER

This is so far from the truth it's disgusting.

As for "I wear SPF" good for you. Are you taking Penicillin for no good reason too? Why not? You MIGHT get sick?

Oh that's right, IT'S BAD TO OVER DO SOMETHING just like SPF and just like OVER TANNING.

Bottom line, DON'T OVER TAN. USE VITAMIN LOTIONS TO KEEP YOUR SKIN HEALTHY AND THROW AWAY YOUR SPF.

And people with tattoos need no apply to the "what's safe and what's not" game.
