This question is for anyone out there that has studied vitamin D synthesis and has any thoughts on the matter.
1. Since 7-Dehydrocholesterol is the "precursor" of vitamin D (the substance in the blood that UV radiation converts into 25-Hydroxycalciferol) 2. 7-Dehydrocholesterol is one of the last "links of the chain" in the process of making cholesterol. 3. Once the body has sufficient 25-Hydroxycalciferol, it continues to act upon 7-Dehydrocholesterol, basically converting it to an inactive metabolite at which point it gets flushed out by the kidneys (?). Why is there no talk of UV exposure even in higher doses than necessary for vitamin D production for the lowering of serum cholesterol?

Does it work? I would like to know!
All the cholesterol lowering drugs are wicked on the liver. I have high cholesterol and just now realize that I always had my physicals in spring when I have had the longest stretches of limited UV exposure. |

Ok. According to Dr. Holick's email that he sent to me this morning, it just doesn't work that way.
For one thing, I misstated the role of UV in creating 25(OH)D. It is converted by the liver, not by UV. The 7(OH)D IS acted upon by UV, I just said it wrong. However, according to Dr. Holick, however, UV does not continue to act upon 7(OH)D as I had suggested in my question. You can read more about how this DOES work here. The latest from Dr. Holick Read the .pdf file for an accurate description of the process.
